GIS Technician

About the position
- Collaborate with all council departments to identify, develop and deliver projects to improve system utilisation, data integrity and consistent processing ensuring the council achieves its corporate obligations and objectives.
- Keep abreast of the latest geospatial technological advances identifying opportunities for adoption to address current and future business needs.
- Monitor and conduct regular audits of data and utilisation of corporate Geographical Information systems providing structured guidance and support on content (data) management, being an advocate for modernised practices.
- Raise awareness of GIS capabilities across the organisation through the delivery of training, information workshops and regular engagement activities.
- Oversee the management of geospatial data (including web services, databases, backend system administration procedures and processes).
- Provide advice, assistance and guidance in the development and maintenance of the GIS applications which support the capture and collation of data for all council assets and services.
- Provide advanced level spatial data management for the preparation, processing, interrogation, manipulation, presentation, and maintenance of GIS data to satisfy internal and external client requirements.
- Provide expert advice and input assisting business areas with decisions regarding the use of their GIS and associated data.
- Provide end user support and assistance to users in the operation of the GIS applications, including drafting GIS documentation and procedures for use by all TRC staff when capturing and utilising spatial data.
Who we are looking for
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Significant experience in the use of Geographic Information Systems (preferably
- Knowledge of MapInfo or ESRI product suites.
- Experience in delivering GIS projects driving ‘continuous quality improvement’ and managing change in a customer focused environment.
- Ability to foster communication, transparency and provide high level customer service whilst maintaining confidentiality, discretion, sensitivity and judgement.
- Experience developing and implementing best practice modern Geographical Information Management.
- Comprehensive understanding of geospatial information principles and broad knowledge of spatial information access points within Queensland Government and industry.
