About the position

  • Assess and manage development applications for plumbing and drainage work including on-site effluent disposal systems and backflow prevention.
  • Actively provide a professional and efficient plumbing and drainage inspection and approval service.
  • Monitor approved on-site effluent disposal system reports to ensure compliance and functional operation of systems.
  • Ensure that plumbing and drainage installations attain the required legislated technical and performance standards through conducting inspection and testing.
  • Provide professional, timely and accurate information and advice to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Carry out compliance investigations and enforcement concerning plumbing, drainage and building non-compliances.
  • Compile “as constructed” field information and record on files and plans.
  • Assist with inspections and non-compliance matters for building works.
  • Develop and maintain sound knowledge and compliance in the provisions of the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2002, Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act 2008, Building Act 1975, Building Code of Australia and relevant other Acts, Council’s Local Laws and Policies and Australian Standards.
  • Assess and recommend changes to TRC policies and procedures to ensure the department operates efficiently and within the confines of all relevant legislation.
  • Work effectively in a multidisciplinary team to provide efficiencies, consistency and knowledge sharing.
  • Other responsibilities as reasonably expected and as directed.

Who we are looking for

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  1. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in applying legislation, local laws and standards relevant to drainage, plumbing and building works.
  2. Demonstrated experience within the plumbing and drainage and building disciplines.
  3. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to confidently assess issues, and manage customer complaints.
  4. Ability to research, analyse and develop reports including the provision of recommendations.
  5. Proficient computer skills and the ability to store and maintain electronic data.
