About the position

  • Safely undertake plant operator and maintenance duties as part of a multi-skilled team to complete program objectives for the maintenance and construction of Council’s roads network in accordance with Council policy and procedures.
  • Operate and maintain assigned truck and or plant, in a responsible, safe, efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Actively prevent breakdowns by reporting defects, submitting maintenance reports and completing routine servicing and basic care of designated plant.
  • Deliver high standard road, drainage, footpath and concrete works, on time, within budget and in compliance with design specifications and regulations.
  • Work effectively as part of a team to achieve daily and project work activities to Council requirements.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to contribute to a cohesive team environment and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Apply safe work practices, and report any risks to your immediate supervisor.
  • Complete labouring tasks as required.
  • Follow reasonable directives to maintain critical business activities in the event of an unplanned disruption, including but not limited to a disaster.
  • Other responsibilities as reasonably expected.

Who we are looking for

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  1. Strong work ethic and an ability to contribute and work within a team environment
  2. Experience operating and servicing a variety of trucks and plant
  3. Physical ability and experience conducting road construction and maintenance duties
  4. Experience in formsetting/concreting (highly desirable)
  5. Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with team members and supervisors.
  6. Awareness of safe work practices including manual handling techniques and an ability to follow Workplace Health and Safety procedures and policies.
