About the position

• Lead and monitor the efficient and effective operations and maintenance of TRC’s eight waste transfer stations, two active landfills and eight closed landfills by providing direction, guidance and establishing safe work practices, work rosters, and procedures to meet the needs of these facilities.
• Ensure TRC’s waste transfer operations comply with Standard Operating Procedures, the Environmental Protection Act 1994, TRC’s Environmental Authority and other permits.
• Conduct weekly compliance and environmental audits across all TRC waste transfer stations and landfills and provide recommendations and implement solutions to address identified issues.
• Collate and report accurate waste and environmental data for regulatory authorities including monthly waste levy reporting, annual volumetric surveys, and other reporting as required.
• Engage and manage contractors at TRC’s waste transfer stations and landfills to ensure efficient operations including plant hire, gatehouse operation, collection and transport of waste and recyclable materials.
• Implementation and maintenance of sound risk management processes within the areas of responsibility and in accordance with TRC’s policies and procedures.
• Support the Foreperson in the supervision and support of employees including performance management and appraisals, and on the job guidance to ensure employees perform their duties safely and efficiently.
• Participate in the development of budgets to ensure efficient, effective management and control of expenditure in accordance with the established budget and TRC’s purchasing policy.
• Identify improvement opportunities and implement programs targeted at improving the operations of TRC’s waste transfer stations and landfills.
• Provide timely and accurate advice to customers, ensuring a quality customer experience in accordance with TRC’s Customer Experience Standards.
• Liaise and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including regulatory agency representatives, residents, and visitors to the TRC area.
• Remain up to date with legislative changes that may impact on TRC’s waste management responsibilities and effectively manage legislative requirements.
• Other responsibilities as reasonably expected.

1. Experience delivering waste operations in a complex and customer focused environment.
2. Proven ability to effectively communicate and negotiate outcomes with staff, contractors, customers and stakeholders at various levels.
3. Highly developed interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to build effective relationships and effectively lead a diverse team.
4. Sound knowledge of waste, environmental and WHS legislative requirements for waste service activities.
5. Extensive experience in compliance/housekeeping auditing, data collation and reporting to ensure compliance with complex legislative requirements.
6. Demonstrated ability to plan and manage multiple tasks/projects within agreed timeframes.
